Italy, often at the bottom of the ICT sector, is timidly moving towards the adoption of this business model. It has been talked about for years and its diffusion is (finally) increasing with significant growth rates and, according to data collected by the “Cloud & ICT as a Service” Observatory <\/a>of the Politecnico di Milano<\/strong>, even stronger as far as the SME sector is concerned.<\/p>\n

Here are 5 things you didn’t know about the Cloud that can help you soar your business to success:<\/p>\n

It’s only a matter of time, sooner or later everyone will use it:<\/strong> the rate of cloud adoption is growing rapidly, and according to Cisco’s Global Cloud Index <\/a>, global cloud traffic will quadruple. By the end of 2019, it will grow from 2.1 to 8.6 zettabytes (ZB), surpassing even the growth of total data center traffic globally over the same time frame. According to the report, several factors are driving the acceleration: demands for personal cloud services and performance coming from a growing number of mobile devices; the rapid growth in popularity of public cloud services for enterprises; the increased degree of private cloud virtualization that increases workload density; the growth of machine-to-machine connections. \"1\"<\/a><\/li>\n
  2. By moving to the Cloud, your data is safe: <\/strong>the psychologically hardest obstacle in migrating to the Cloud is security. There is a fear that your data may not be safe. It’s not like that! Alberto Meneghini, Security Services Leader of IBM Italy, interviewed by wired.it<\/a> magazine says: “The first point I would like to make is that the information that resides in the cloud remains the property of the customer.<\/a> Among other things, the use of this data takes place within the limits of international regulations, such as the ISO 27001 standard<\/a>“. The CEO of VMEngine himself, Fabio Cecaro<\/a>, had previously stressed that: “it is an age-old issue and in some respects it is real. First of all, let’s clarify that by security we mean the strategies undertaken to avoid losing data and by privacy the guarantee that no one can read my data other than me. These problems have always existed in any IT infrastructure outsourcing contract and must be clarified by appropriate contracts with related SLAs and penalties. So far, nothing new, except for the fact that we may be dealing with a multinational provider with an infinite number of datacenters and very well-established approaches to datacenter management. On privacy, I would like to add<\/a> that Microsoft itself has stated that the current legislation, both national and international, is very lacking and old and Microsoft itself is a promoter to governments (especially the US one) for updates. He recently stated that the famous Patriot Act would allow the U.S. government to be able to sift through data even in datacenters in Europe. The problem would not arise since we have the possibility to encrypt our data in total freedom, the important thing is to know it.<\/li>\n
  3. Traditional IT? It’s outdated! <\/strong>Agile and efficient: Compared to a traditional IT system, moving to the cloud ensures greater yield. According to IDC<\/a> estimates, the cloud is up to 40 percent more cost-effective for an SME compared to using its own traditional IT system.<\/li>\n
  4. The Cloud is a language, do you speak Cloud?<\/strong> It is a business model<\/em> that allows you to talk to the whole world, as it is the bearer of a common language made up of simplified processes and lower investments.\"\"<\/li>\n
  5. The Cloud is “eco-friendly”<\/em>:<\/strong> energy saving and greater efficiency are the cornerstones of the Cloud. According to analyst firm Gartner<\/a>, 64 percent of enterprises that have moved to the cloud have reduced their environmental impact and energy consumption, resulting in cost savings as well as benefits for the entire community.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
